Our featured wine of the week:
Patricia Green Cellars 2012 Freedom Hill Pinot Noir – A classic Oregon Pinot Noir from the east slopes of the coast range near Sheridan from Freedom Hill Vineyard. The wine displays a rich and complex structure featuring bright cherry flavors complemented by deeper, smoky notes and a lovely, lingering finish. Rich and complex aromas of raspberries, black cherry, exotic spice, campfire smoke and candied orange peel. Flavors mirror the aromas with complex layers of cherry, smoke, spicy oak, orange peel and pumpkin pie spice. The juicy mouthfeel has lively acidity and fine-grained tannins that lead into a lingering cherry finish. Food Pairing Suggestions: One of the more perfect pairings of Pinot to put with the Traditional Holiday Celebrations of Roasted Pork Loin, Ham, and Turkey.

New Northwest Arrivals...

  • Flying Dutchman 2008 Quail Run Vineyard Merlot Reserve – This is just an outstanding Merlot from Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley and Quail Run Vineyard. This reserve has been barrel aged for 4 years to deepen and concentrate the intense flavors of the wine before being bottled. This is a gold medal winner in the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival from this year. The wine displays lovely notes of ripe red and dark fruits, dark cherries, currants and spice with hints of dark chocolate on the nose and mid-palate, and a touch of pepper and espresso bean. The wine finishes with a lush, bramble berry medley that is perfectly balanced and beckons for another sip.
  • Flying Dutchman 2009 Quail Run Vineyard Cabernet Franc Reserve – This is from Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley and Quail Run Vineyard. Medium bodied wine with soft, velvety mouth feel and bright red fruit balanced with hints of dark fruit notes. Nose reveals red cherry, tobacco, caramel and licorice. Delicious!
  • Sineann 2013 Champoux Vineyard Merlot – Dark, rich and powerful. Huge black cherry nose with graham, toast, and a hint of smoke. Sweet black cherry/plum flavors, accented by touches of plum liqueur, Chambord, toast, smoke, and pepper. Tannins are present, with a very slight grip. The finish has good acidity to balance the fruit. This is from one of Washington state’s oldest vineyards.
  • Patricia Green 2013 Reserve Pinot Noir – Bright ruby-red. Bright cherry and floral aromas are complemented by notes of rhubarb and fresh herbs. Sappy, focused and concentrated, offering an array of red fruit flavors and a showing noteworthy vivacity. Finishes with gentle tannic grip and very good persistence, leaving spice and floral notes behind.

New International Arrivals...

  • Marie-Courtin Champagne Resonance Extra Brut (France) – Clear, light hay/sunshine yellow in color. Bright apple & citrus peel notes, small red fruits, and a touch of minerality. Medium bodied with lovely density and mid palate weight. Finished dry and long with pinot tinged extract. Delicious grower champagne.
  • Marc Herbrat Champagne Cuvee Reserve Brut (France) – Firm and mouthwatering with racy acidity, this features a core of ground spice, fresh ginger and citrus zest, with a minerally undertow layered with fresh-cut quince and poached pear. Creamy finish. Another beautiful grower champagne.
  • Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Sainte-Anne Brut (France)(91pts) – Light gold in color. Lively scents of nectarine, orange zest and green apple, with a bright mineral overtone. Racy, focused and pure, offering fresh citrus and orchard fruit flavors and hints of smoky minerals and ginger. Picks up a floral nuance on the finish, which lingers with stony tenacity.

Our featured gourmet food of the week: Urban Accents Sonoma Pepper – This is a lemon, orange and black pepper blend. It’s all natural, gluten free, salt free and no MSG. This seasoning is great to roll your cream cheese or goat cheese in to serve with crackers or toasted baguettes. Use it also on vegetables, poultry and fish.

From Oregon & perfect for your champagne to add that special appearance to your next party.

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
