Our featured wine of the week:
Quails Gate 2012 Chenin Blanc – This is summer in a glass! Here’s an absolutely stunning Chenin Blanc from the Okanagan Valley in BC from one of B.C.’s top producers. This fresh and vibrant Chenin Blanc shows abundant expressive aromatics of jasmine, passion fruit, and orange blossom with flavors of star fruit and apple on a balanced, crisp mineral finish. Suggested Food Pairings: True, oysters on the half shell are a beautiful pairing, but this wine also embraces any fresh seafood entrée.

New NW Arrivals...

  • Beaux Freres 2012 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – A very dark ruby color with an intensely perfumed, aromatic display of dark raspberries, blueberry and black currants. Supple tannins, very opulent and full-bodied in the mouth, this is a deliciously forward style of Pinot Noir. It has the potential to evolve for another decade and may turn out to be the best Willamette Valley cuvee we have made.
  • Brooks 2012 Runaway Red Pinot Noir – Wonderful bright red fruit in the nose; cherry, strawberry, rhubarb, raspberry with cinnamon and nutmeg spices and graham cracker crust. Candied cherry, and wild strawberry, like picking berries in the summer sun. This wine is perfect just out of the fridge with a bit of a chill on it. Fresh red fruits and a hint of tomato leaf, refreshing with bright acidity.
  • Matzinger Davies 2013 Gorgeous Savvy Sauvignon Blanc – It opens with aromas of citrusy lemon peel and key lime pie, floral lilac and jasmine, cut apple and stone fruit. On the palate is a confectionary luscious quality, honeydew melon, and something saline and briny as if from the sea, with a compliment of honey, dry grass and pear nectar and bees wax. The wine is mouthwatering and satisfying, knit tightly with bright acidity which gives both poise and presence through to the lasting finish. This is always a summertime favorite from the NW.
  • Longshadows 2013 Poets Leap Riesling – Offers aromas of white peach, jasmine, Thai basil and nutmeg. Flavors of ripe melon, apricot and an appealing minerality continue across the palate. An underlying hint of honey sweetness is balanced by a streak of bright acidity that provides a long, clean finish.
  • Saviah Cellars 2013 The Jack Riesling – This food friendly wine shows delicious notes of apple, apricot and peach, along with a distinct minerality. It is perfectly balanced with crisp acidity and subtle sweetness.

New International Arrivals...

  • Marchesi Antinori 2009 Chianti Classico Reserva (Italy) – A very intense ruby red in color with purple highlights. Aromas of great ripeness characterized by notes of such red fruit as cherries, raspberries, and red currants along with licorice and vanilla. On the palate, the roundness and firmness of the tannins give much drinking pleasure despite the wine’s young age. The lingering finish and aftertaste add length and enjoyment.
  • Marchesi Antinori 2012 Il Bruciato (Italy)(91pts WS) – The nose shows intense aromas of red berry fruit of excellent expressiveness and focus which are followed by lovely notes of sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is balanced and harmonious and of exceptional overall drinking pleasure. Made from Cabernet, Sangiovese and Syrah from fruit off the Guado Al Tasso vineyard.

New Gift Arrivals...

These holiday themed table runners will add a touch of elegance to your holiday table and they make a perfect gift! Choose from a village scene, snowflake, holiday laced evergreen bow, and snowman.

Our featured gourmet food of the week: Urban Accents Tzatziki Dill & Garlic – A seasoning blend of garlic, sea salt, onion, dill, chives, black pepper, parsley, ground mustard, lemon peel and ginger. This seasoning makes a perfect dip for all the fresh vegetables that are currently in season. Also use on your favorite fish dishes or a summer salad.

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
