Our featured wine of the week: Willful Wine Co 2012 Dundee Hills Winemaker’s Cuvee Pinot Noir – This sassy wine shows great notes of cherries, strawberries and cranberries on the nose. This follows through on the palate showing delicious layers of red fruit, spice and subtle savory notes to create a silky wine that is ready to drink and enjoy now or cellar it for a decade. Food Pairing Suggestions: Perfect to pair with your favorite summer salad, fresh grilled salmon or grill pork. (91 pts WE)


New Northwest Arrivals...

  • Eminent Domaine 2014 Estate Pinot Noir – Aromas of pepper, baking spices, cigar box and dried flowers immediately jump from the glass followed by a sense of power and rich black cherry notes on the nose. The palate is dry, lively/juicy with elegance and balance showing lifted mixed berries supported by a finely spiced tannin structure. The finish is long, complex and muscular leaving you to contemplate and revisit. This is a gorgeous Pinot Noir!

  • Cote Bonneville 2014 Train Station Cabernet Sauvignon – Juicy, approachable and imminently drinkable, this Cabernet will leave you reaching for another bottle. Strawberry and cherry combine with sweet oak and sassafras. Medium body makes this an easy sipper on its own, in addition to a nice accompaniment to a meal.

  • Ross Andrew Winery 2013 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon – Impressive black fruit aromas are bolstered by red currant, fresh cedar and a hint of spice. The palate opens with subtle notes of a World Class Cabernet Sauvignon which the Red Mountain AVA is known for – black olive, mineral and liquid iron gives this wine a rich balance.

  • Sawtooth Winery 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon – This Cabernet is from the Snake River AVA in Idaho. Medium bodied with developed notes of boysenberry, coriander, and clove. Lingering fruit marries with oak and medium tannins on the finish. Pairs well with steaks, creamy cheeses, and buttery sauces. This is a young wine and will do well with time as the tannins soften and the fruit ages.

  • Kandarian Wine Cellars 2015 “Karma” Pinot Gris – White peach aromas with floral notes. On the palate, the wine is balanced, opening with bright acidity and refreshing Meyer lemon citrus flavors, followed by a juicy mid-palate, and a long finish.

  • Radicle Vine 2015 Chardonnay – Aromas of guava, pear and vanilla spice fly out of the glass. The palate is rich without losing its zippy minerality. Mid palate is chalk full of dense, ripe fruit that dances just on the edge of tropical and those classic tree ripened apples and pears. Hints of ripe melon are matched with great acidity. A great everyday value!

  • Willful Wine Co 2015 Jezebel Blanc – This is a blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Muscat. It has peach, pear and apple aromas & flavors with floral notes. On the palate, the wine is balanced, opening with bright fruit and refreshing lemon citrus flavors, followed by a juicy mid-palate, and a long finish.

  • Willful Wine Co 2013 Umpqua Valley Tempranillo – Toasty, dense and tannic, this combines blueberry fruit, roasted walnut and sappy acidity in a fresh, youthful and delicious wine. (91 pts WE)

  • Willful Wine Co 2014 Walla Walla Red Blend – This is a one-time bottling of a Bordeaux style wine with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot all from a tiny vineyard on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla AVA. This wine has beautifully balance fruit, with firm but not overly imposing tannins. Great with a steak.

  • Willful Wine Co 2014 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – Scents of seductive spice and an earthy crust surrounds a core of juicy, dark cherry. For flavor, imagine ripened huckleberries at the edge of a forest path. Savory and robust with a luscious finish that is a perfect match to firm tannins.

    The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
    The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
