Our featured wine of the week: Abacela 2012 Port – This vintage style dessert wine was crafted from five traditional Douro wine grapes grown on the Abacela Estate. Opaque in the glass, this wine has notes of dried figs, blackberries, plums, cocoa and exotic spice. Fine grained tannins create rich texture and a lengthy finish. Recommended Food Pairings: Gorgonzola Cheese with pear, chocolate dessert or dark chocolate.

  • Abacela 2012 Dolcetto – Ripe raspberry, dark jammy fruits and floral vanilla bean dominate the aromas with hints of red cherry and savory spice in the background. The purity of fruit and balanced palate delights with velvety texture and integrated acidity.

  • Patton Valley 2014 WV Pinot Noir – Seductively perfumed with aromas of boysenberry, violets, almond, lavender and vanilla pipe tobacco. The opulent nose transitions into a radiant palate of red fruit, with profound notes of raspberry, Bing cherry, pomegranate and cassis. Velvety tannins spread across the palate balanced by pleasing acidity with nutmeg, caraway and Chinese five-spice lingering through the enduring finish.

  • Cloudy Bay 2015 Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) – Bright, focused citrus aromatics of grapefruit and Kaffir lime abound, supported by subtle tropical notes. A silky, concentrated palate reveals ripe, juicy stone fruit and lemongrass, supported by a subtle minerality. Its racy acidity leads toward a mouthwatering, persistent finish.

Our featured gourmet food of the week: Saxon Chocolate Black Mission Figs dipped in Dark Chocolate – Just in time for Valentine’s Day.     The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
    The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
