Our featured wine of the week: Fidelitas 2012 Optu Red Mountain – Optu represents a selection of Fidelitas’ favorite barrels in each vintage. A truly complex Cabernet based blend, with lots of dark black cherry, blackberry, and plum spiked with a touch of pomegranate. The fruit aromas are layered among notes of cassis, dried tobacco, and buttered toast. Very smooth intake on the palate, with rounded elegant tannins on the finish. A wine you want to spend some time with! Suggested Food Pairings: A perfect pairing to a grilled steak or with chocolate.

New Northwest Arrivals

  • Reininger 2007 Walla Walla Valley Cima – An exclusive to the North Oregon Coast at The Cellar on 10th – This is Chuck’s Super Wallan – Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Aromatics of cherry hard candy, crème brulee, a touch of dried fruit spice and savoriness that screams Walla Walla. Its garnet body smoothly enters cassis and cola nut then blackberry and date as its acidity ending with leather, tobacco and cedary eucalyptus. This is a Library Release and is extremely limited!

  • Abacela 2014 Grenache Rose` – The color of ruby red grapefruit, this dry rosé displays notes of strawberries, watermelon and roses, coupled with flavors of cherries, apple skins and hints of citrus peel. The balanced acidity and lengthy finish define the complexity and minerality of this wine.

  • Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards 2013 Tempranillo – Boasting a rich, dark, mahogany-like color, this Tempranillo captures your attention. Integrated toasted oak notes of vanilla, dark chocolate and cedar give way to black cherry, cranberry and hints of anise. In its youthful stage, the palate is full of toasty oak and firm structure, and in time these youthful tannins will relent to the dark fruits lying just beneath the surface. A very age-worthy wine with a long bright fruit finish, you can look forward to enjoying this wine over the next 10+ years.

  • Quilceda Creek 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon – A collector’s dream! Is a seamless wine that coats the entire palate with copious amounts of blackberry, blueberry and cassis fruit with complex soy, smoke, graphite, spice and mineral undertones. All of this deep and rich fruit is perfectly complemented by additional floral suggestions of Hyacinth and Lavender. This classic wine should age effortlessly for 20+ years

New International Arrivals

  • Caparzo 2010 Brunello Di Montalcino (Italy) (95 pts WS) – This is the first of the highly rated, classis 2010 brunello’s to arrive from Italy. Grand Reserve Sangiovese aged to perfection. Full body, integrated tannins and a savory and tangy finish. Fleshy and yummy. This one will age for up to 30 years!

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
