Our featured wine of the week:
Capitello 2013 Pinot Gris – Here’s a delicious, crisp Willamette Valley Pinot Gris. Spicy, Sharp, tart and deep. A compact mix of citrus, pear, green apple and gooseberry fruit. This has exceptional structure and density and clean, crisp minerality with just a touch of sweetness. This is a classic example of the great fruit that comes from Willamette Valley. Suggested Food Pairings: A perfect Pinot Gris to pair with fresh Northwest Oysters.

New NW Arrivals...

  • Brooks 2012 Titan Late Harvest Gewurztraminer – Aromas of Sultana raisins, golden figs, apricots, canned peaches and musky fruit cocktail. Nutmeg, gingerbread, and honey. Beautifully balanced wine, off dry, but not cloyingly sweet. This is just like biting into an over ripe peach, with the wonderful combination of ripe, sweet fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Perfect dessert wine for fall.
  • Brooks 2013 Amycus – A delightful blend of Pinot Blanc (27%), Riesling (26%), Pinot Gris (20%), Gewurztraminer (14%), and Muscat (13%). Cantaloupe, grapefruit, nectarine, lychee and white peach aromas. Crisp, floral and round with a touch of mineral undertones capable of pairing itself with a variety of foods as well as being enjoyed alone! A great value.
  • Siltstone 2013 Guadalupe Vineyard Pinot Gris – Opens with a warm, floral nose with notes of fresh-cut lemon and yellow stone fruits. The wine presents a full body, with the presence of peach and spice. On the palate, it carries a good complexity and culminates with a smooth finish. Just delicious!
  • Capitello 2013 Pinot Gris – Here’s a delicious, crisp Willamette Valley Pinot Gris. Spicy, Sharp, tart and deep. A compact mix of citrus, pear, green apple and gooseberry fruit. This has exceptional structure and density and clean, crisp minerality with just a touch of sweetness. This is a classic example of the great fruit that comes from Willamette Valley.
  • Stoller Family Estate 2012 Pinot Noir – From the outstanding 2012 vintage, the wine has aromas of ripe raspberries, black cherries, floral notes of lilac and violets, and barrel spices of cinnamon and clove. The palate features a purity of red fruit flavors, bright acidity and medium tannins.
  • Oak Knoll NV Frambrosia Raspberry – Nearly one pound of fruit is used for each half bottle. Whole red raspberries are frozen then thawed to make this wine.

New International Arrivals...

  • Orin Swift 2012 Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon (California) – A voluminous complexion of deep garnet and cardinal can be seen in the glass profile. Profoundly aromatic, the nose is treated to a decadent perfume of currant, roasted espresso, spring flowers, and toasty oak. Supple and rich in the mouth, intense flavors of wild berry fruit, plum, roasted fig, and cacao are in perfect alignment. The length is fleshy and bright with a polished tannin sequence that will last for years.
  • Marchesi Antinori 2011 Cervaro della Sala Chardonnay (Italy) – One of the best Italian chardonnays made, and by Antinori. A luminous yellow with greenish highlights, shows toasted aromas along with notes of citrus and tropical fruit and lightly buttery sensations. Fresh and savory on the palate, it is long and persistent as well. Already pleasurable, it shows an important aging potential, the promise of excellent future evolution.

Our featured gourmet food of the week: The Spice Lab Australian Murray River Sea Salt – Australian Murray River crystals are light and delicate peach colored flakes. They have a wonderfully mild flavor. The crystals melt quickly and evenly making this flake salt ideal for finishing, roasting and baking. Murray River is 40% the weight of a normal salt, you get great flavor while using less salt. Try it on a fresh salad, watermelon and even popcorn

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
