Our featured wine of the week: Tyrus Evan 2014 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Claret – This Red Mountain blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot reveals aromas of dark berries, currants, tobacco, chocolate, game and subtle oak. The palate is bold, intense, concentrated and pliant with flavors enlivened by firm acid with a brisk finish that features firm but sweet tannins. Food Pairing Suggestions: A perfect wine to pair with red meat, medium strong cheese and chocolate.

New Northwest Arrivals

  • Cameron 2014 Clos Electrique Blanc – This Chardonnay makes one dream of French cuisine. Its nose is perfumed with baked apple, Anjou pear, Kaffir lime and honeysuckle. The palate of lemon curd, lemon verbena and white peach juice is accompanied by white pepper and a long, lingering finish.
  • Cameron 2014 Clos Electrique Rouge – The multiple old red Burgundy clones is expressed in scents of forest flor, leather, rare steak, Matsu Taki mushrooms, black raspberries and pie cherries interwoven with cool, cellar-floor earth and a saline/mineral note of crushed oyster shells. The mouth has a rich, creamy texture accompanied by ripe juiciness and silky tannins. The firm structure and vibrant acidity assure its long cellar worthiness.

New International Arrivals

  • Marc Hebrart Cuvee Reserve Brut – This mouthwatering and balanced bubbly is refined in texture, offering lively blackberry, candied lemon zest, blanched almond and fleur de sel notes, with a creamy, spiced finish. 91 pts WS
  • Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Cuis ler Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut – Hints of pineapple and baked peach add a ripe fruit accent to this otherwise firm and dry version, featuring a fine bead, mineral undertone and well-knit flavors of persimmon, fresh ginger and slivered almond.

  • A Margaine Le Brut Premier Cru Champagne – Delightful nose with pear flesh and herb overtones. Soft, silky, mellow attack revealing more of the fruit. Trace of subtle herbal firmness on the finish.

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
