Our featured wine of the week: D’Anu Wines 2012 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir – Owner/winemaker Joe Williams used grapes from Vista Hills Vineyard in Oregon’s Dundee Hills for this bright, lively and delicious Pinot Noir. It opens with aromas of sweet spices, raspberry and Rainier cherry. On the palate, bright acidity lifts the flavors of red currant, pie cherry and red and black currant. It is seamless throughout and finishes with length and elegance. Suggested Food Pairings: A perfect wine to pair with grilled pork and fresh Salmon.

New Northwest Arrivals...

  • Penner-Ash 2013 Rubio – This blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah shows a bright core of cranberry and plum that is rounded out by dark violet and rich leather aromatics. A sweetly textured palate of briar fruit and black cherry layered with savory herbs and a suggestion of wet slate on the finish

  • D’Anu Wines 2012 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir – It opens with aromas of sweet spices, raspberry and Rainier cherry. On the palate, bright acidity lifts the flavors of red currant, pie cherry and red and black currant. It is seamless throughout and finishes with length and elegance. Only 56 cases produced!

  • D’Anu Wines 2013 Seven Hills Vineyard Sangiovese – It shows aromas of cherries, cigar box, mocha, plum and raspberry jam. Flavors convey purity and concentration, with the tannins providing a lightly chalky feel. An awesome Walla Walla Sangiovese and perfect for pasta!

  • Abacela 2011 Barrel Select Tempranillo – Formerly known as the “Estate” Tempranillo. The deep color and compelling aromas allude to the intensity of flavors that follow. Rich blackberry, violets, mocha, spice box, smoke and well defined tannins unfold on the palate in velvety layers through the lengthy finish. This is Abacela’s flagship wine.

  • Bethel Heights 2014 Pinot Gris – Aromas of lychee, key lime, and banana, giving way to underlying aromas of flint and honeydew melon. The palate is round and generous, showcasing the plush nature of the vintage while still maintaining a bright core of acidity for balance.

  • Bethel Heights 2012 Estate Pinot Noir (92 pts WS) – Soft and appealing with gentle blackberry and black plum flavors riding easily over polished tannins which linger on the expressive finish. The tannins are well-integrated and the flavors are persistent. Gorgeous Cherry Cola, spices, candied orange peel and cranberry all harmoniously meld together in this awesome wine!

The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
