Our featured wine of the week: Patton Valley 2014 “High Five” White Blend – This is a blend of white Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris with a splash of Chardonnay and Riesling. Aromas of pineapple and lemon zest, with jasmine, banana, and caramel. The palate is all ripe guava, pineapple, and tangerine. Acid zips and lingers. Suggested Food Pairings: Roasted chicken and your favorite fall salad.

New Northwest Arrivals...

  • Purple Hands 2014 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – This Pinot is from Cody Wright. Aromas and flavors of wild red cherries and bright plums in this lighter style of Pinot Noir. Sweet cranberries, floral and pie spice come through as well. Just delicious!

  • Sheridan Vineyard 2012 L’Orage – A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. It has aromas of crème de cassis, lavender and dark chocolate truffle. The palate reveals smooth tannins leading to flavors of pomegranate molasses, blackberry preserves and a hint of anise. Lush and perfumed with Chambord liquor, bittersweet chocolate and hints of tobacco. Finishes with full fruit silky tannins and juicy black fruit. This is their flagship wine and just stunning!

  • Sheridan Vineyard 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon – Aromas of currants, plum and sweet floral notes that immediately capture your attention. This wine is all about mouth feel, rich and velvety from beginning to end. It delivers expressions of crème de cassis, blackberries and semi-sweet chocolate. Dense and flesh while delivering silky sweet tanning a long memorable finish.

  • Patton Valley 2014 “High Five” White Blend – This is a blend of white Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris with a splash of Chardonnay and Riesling.   • Ensemble Cellars Release #9 – This Bordeaux style wine blends three vintages together. Release #9 includes wines from 2010, 2011 and 2012. Bing cherry and exotic spice nose lead to bright cherry flavors in a well balanced frame. The spicy French Oak comes through clearly. Great complexity with well integrated tannins and an exceptionally long finish. This will age gracefully for many years.

New International Arrival...

  • Chateau La Maroutine 2010 Bordeaux (France) – Powerful and rich, this wine tastes of black and red berries. The ripeness of the vintage is evident, with a dense character that lends weight and concentration, while adding fresh black-currant-like acidity. 2010 was a classic vintage in Bordeaux.

  • Taylor Fladgate 10 Year Tawny Port (Portugal) – Rich and elegant nose combining aromas of ripe berry fruit with a delicate nuttiness and subtle mellow notes of chocolate, butterscotch and fine oak wood. Smooth and silky on the palate and full of ripe fig, & jam flavors which persist on the long finish.

  • Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny Port (Portugal) – Opulent and voluptuous nose of complex spicy, jammy and nutty aromas, hints of orange flower and a fine oakiness coming from the long period of aging in cask. The palate is full of very rich and concentrated flavor and has a long mellow finish. A port lovers dream!

We will be pouring a sampling of big red wines from selected producers. These are the perfect wines for fall and winter. The Cellar on 10th has moved up from its 2004 Outstanding Oregon Wine List Award to the "big daddy" of them all, the Outstanding Northwest Wine List Award.

      The following is the article that appears in the magazine:
      The Cellar on 10th, Astoria, Ore.; MIKE WALLIS' restaurant and cellar sits at the mouth of the Columbia, and the list runs as the Columbia does, seemingly with Washington and Oregon representations split down the middle. Those looking for current vintages certainly won't be disappointed. There are seven from Barnard Griffin on top of eight from Beaux Freres. Near the bottom, Winter's Hill is followed by Woodward Canyon. There's also B.C. representation with ice wines from Mission Hill and Inniskillin.
